The Harvest

Earlier this year, I sent an email to some of my friends about the difference between our Thanksgiving Dinner last year and this year. How many people have left the field and/or died. That got us to thinking, so over dinner we made a list.

In the 2 1/2 years that we have been here, we have known one person who was murdered, two that committed suicide, and two orphans that died of illness.

In the same time period.the number of full time missionaries (including kids) that have left the field that we know (we define know as had a relationship with, ate with, called friends), not just know of...are you sitting down? We can count 53 missionaries that have returned to their home country, and 5 more that are returning in 2010. How many full time missionaries have come to Bolivia in that same time frame that we know? Less than 10.

Why does this happen?

There are bad reasons...no money, life is too hard, conflicts in ministry, cultural problems, family stress, and fear just to name a few.

There are also good reasons such as a change in ministry or calling.

However, I just keep coming back to God’s Word:

“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Pray to that Lord of the Harvest that He would send forth workers into His field.”

Many of you have already joined us in our calling and support us through prayers and finances. Join us in prayerful agreement to this as well. Pray that the Lord of the Harvest will send workers to Bolivia.
